Before becoming chief in July 2003, Mr. Keller was the Op-Ed columnist and senior author of the New York Times Magazine and other newspapers from September 2001. He worked as managing editor from 1997 to September 2001, after a foreign newspaper editor from June 1995 to 1997. He was editor of the Times office in Johannesburg from April 1992 to May 1995.

From December 1986 to October 1991, Mr. Keller was a correspondent in Moscow, serving as director of the office during his three years there. In 1989 he won the Pulitzer Prize for his coverage of the Soviet Union. Mr. Keller joined The New York Times in 1984 as a national correspondent in the Washington office.

Before joining the Times, Mr. Keller was a reporter for the Dallas Times Herald, Congressional Quarterly Weekly Report in Washington, and Portland Oregonian.

Mr. Keller graduated from Pomona College, graduating in 1970 and belongs to the College Board.

Earlier this year, Ms. Ellison bought the rights for the well-worn "Terminator" franchise for a reported $ 20 million. It is developing a movie based on "the boy who started the nest," an article about the founder of Wikileaks editor Julian Assange out of the New York Times, Bill Keller.
